Self-Guided Tours

Due to the high volume of daily programs in the Museum, groups who plan to bring their own lecturer for a self-guided tour must reserve a lecturer’s badge in advance and are limited to thirty-five people per lecturer. Reserve a lecturer’s badge by calling 212-570-3711 or emailing mettours@metmuseum.org.

Museum-Guided Tours

A one-hour guided tour led by a Museum lecturer is a wonderful way to enhance your group's visit. These guided tours provide an insider's view of the Museum and may be customized to focus on a specific highlight of the permanent collection or a particular exhibition. Popular topics include:

  • The Highlights Tour: An Introduction to the Met's Collection
  • New Galleries for Greek and Roman Art
  • Impressionism and Modern Art
  • The Art of Dress
  • Women in Art
  • Drama, Music, and Dance in Art

See the list of Curatorial Departments or Special Exhibitions to review other possible tour topics.

Museum-guided tours must be reserved at least two weeks in advance. One lecturer must be reserved for every thirty people. Multiple guides are available for an additional fee.

Groups of fewer than fifteen may reserve a tour and pay the minimum fee. A group of fewer than ten may request a tour through V.I.P. Tours. Separate fees apply.

Tours are available in several languages, including French, German, Italian, Japanese, Mandarin, Russian, and Spanish.

V.I.P. Tours

Private one-hour tours customized for individuals may also be arranged for a special fee. Please email viptours@metmuseum.org or call 212-650-2329 for more information.
